The Cedar Rapids Public Library and Reading Into Success are hosting a Children’s Health Fair.

The event will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Ladd Library, 3750 Williams Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Caregivers of young children are invited to visit with service providers, learn about local health resources for families, and access free vision, dental, and developmental screenings for children.

The event is free and open to all.

Iowa Kids Sight with the Lions Club will provide vision screenings for kids ages 6 months to 5 years. HACAP/WIC will offer free developmental screenings up to age 5 years, and free dental screenings and fluoride treatments up to age 22.

Other partners include YPN, Family Learning Connection, Grant Wood Area Education Agency Early Access, and Buy.Eat.Live.Healthy.

The Children’s Health Fair was created to help meet families where they are and bring together multiple services and resources aimed at creating healthy and safe early childhoods for our community.  This is the second year of the event.

“We want to serve the whole child, which means we hand out books and help caregivers with topics like kindergarten readiness, but it also means helping them connect to the resources provided by our great community partners,” said Reading into Success coordinator Elizabeth Yusko.

Reading into Success, the local Campaign for Grade Level Reading, focuses on early school success and kindergarten readiness, summer learning, and parents as partners. Learn more at readingintosuccess.org.
