Jan. 12, 2026 – It's the season to curl up with a good book – perhaps a murder mystery might feel appropriate in the cold of winter. If you don't want your fiction to be too dark and dire, the cozy mystery genre might be for you. These who-dunnits often feature baking, bookshops, crafts, or adorable dogs and intrepid crime-solving cats. So brew a cup of tea, settle on the couch under your most comfortable blanket, and sink into one of these cozy mysteries, curated by Materials Librarian Allison Zordell.
"Murder by Cheesecake: A Golden Girls Cozy Mystery" by Rachel Ekstrom-Courage (2025)
Things are heating up, and not just because of Blanche’s hot flashes. Rose’s cousin is eloping to Miami, and Rose is playing host. If she can't balance the groom’s family’s snobbery against the traditional St. Olaf wedding week guidelines, her hometown may never accept her cousin again!

But when Minnie and Eddie and the bookmobile take their scenic detour, Eddie uncharacteristically escapes from the bookmobile – and finds a woman in the woods, horribly wounded with an arrow. Though Minnie desperately calls 9-1-1, all too soon she realizes she was too late. The police seem ready to call the death a hunting accident, but Minnie can't shake the feeling that foul play was involved, particularly given the woman's final whispered words. With evidence lacking, Minnie and Eddie will have to claw their way through a thicket of suspects to find the truth.
