Dec. 3, 2025 – The Cedar Rapids Public Library is made possible by our incredible staff. And we are staffed by book lovers. To celebrate the people who keep our library running, we're highlighting different staff members and books they love.
Shelver Abigayle E. started at the library in October 2024. Shelvers keep the library functioning by sorting and returning books to the correct shelves and making sure you can find the titles you're looking for.
"My favorite part of the job is working with all the amazing staff and volunteers at the library! I love chatting with everyone about their recommendations for good books to read," Abigayle said.

"Below the Edge of Darkness" by Edith Widder
I enjoyed how Widder combines a compelling personal narrative with technical insights into the field of marine biology and the science behind bioluminescence. This memoir is a great opportunity for readers to take a fascinating glimpse into deep-sea marine science in a casual, engaging way.
"The House in the Cerulean Sea" by TJ Klune
There is a lovely sense of cozy, magical realism in this world created by TJ Klune. Although the story starts off bleak, it is a wonderful, heartwarming journey of growth, acceptance, and finding love in unexpected places.
"Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt
Van Pelt does a great job of creating such genuine characters that you can't help but root for them all. I loved the unlikely friendships that helped these characters connect with one another and start to heal old wounds.
"Red, White & Royal Blue" by Casey McQuiston
This cute, witty romance takes readers on a fun journey from enemies to friends to lovers and beyond. A heartwarming tale filled with delightful characters where love truly conquers all.
"The City of Brass" by S.A. Chakraborty
In this first installment of "The Daevabad" trilogy, Chakraborty introduces readers to a captivating magical realm hidden from human sight. The twists and turns, beautifully complex characters, and detailed world building makes this one of my all-time favorite fantasy series.
