The University of Iowa's Burch Trio will perform free live music in the library Commons.
The Burch Trio evolved through a shared passion for chamber music and contemporary works. Violinist Rachel Peters, violist Rebecca Vieker, and cellist Hanna Rumora formed the ensemble during their time at the University of Iowa. Peters, Vieker, and Rumora perform with prominent ensembles including Hub New Music, Orchestra Iowa, the Omaha Symphony, the Des Moines Symphony, the Belin Quartet, and the Cadence Quartet. As faculty members and resident artists, the Burch Trio musicians have worked at universities across the country such as Drake University, Coe College, Dickinson College, Sacramento State University, and University of the Pacific, providing masterclasses, chamber coachings, composer readings, and performances.
In addition to their trio performances, the members frequently collaborate in other chamber ensembles. In 2024, as part of the Human Resources Piano Quartet, they toured eastern Iowa, and recorded Danny Elfman’s Piano Quartet which they released on YouTube. All three members perform with the Oak String Quartet, which plays to sold-out audiences across the state of Iowa. The Burch Trio is committed to artistic growth, regularly coaching with esteemed artists such as Jessie Montgomery, JACK Quartet, and Aizuri Quartet, among others.
Based in Iowa City, the Burch Trio’s name honors Burch the Bear, University of Iowa’s original black bear cub mascot.
