Summer Dare Volunteer Roles Suspended in 2020
This summer, the Summer Dare will transition to a virtual program. We will not present any in-person programs at the Library or at any offsite location. We will certainly still host the Summer Dare to encourage reading in our community. We will still have prizes to give away and lots of online programs for patrons to access each week. We are committed champions for reading, exploring, sharing, and discovering and are working to overcome barriers to accessing the Library and its resources in innovative ways that ensure the safety of our patrons, staff, and volunteers.
Unfortunately, we will not have any Summer Dare volunteers this year. This was not an easy decision for us. We have enjoyed working closely with volunteers for many years to present a unique, ambitious summer reading program for our community. However, when considering our volunteers’ safety, the Library’s needs, the changes to the Summer Dare program, and the changes to our Library operations based on recommendations from public health officials, we are confident that this is the right decision – no matter how difficult it might be.
We encourage you to sign up for the Summer Dare and to wildly promote it! You can still be an advocate for reading and learning, even without volunteering at the Library this summer.
We look forward to welcoming back volunteers in their regular year-round roles as soon as it is responsibly safe to do so. For more information about year-round volunteer roles, click here.
