Student Library Cards FAQs

Why did the Library make student IDs into library cards for CRCSD students?

The Library and the Cedar Rapids Community School District have worked to make library materials more accessible to all students through this partnership. Students will have instant access to digital materials through the Library’s website, as well as the ability to check out physical items if they visit the Library in person. Anyone who does not want this card or their student to have this access can call the Library and we will deactivate the account.

What if my student already has a library card?

We understand this may be a duplicate to some existing accounts and that’s okay. We are happy to delete this new account and your student can continue using their original library card, or we can update your information with this new card. Please call us and we’ll assist you with whichever you prefer.

As a parent am I responsible for books that my child checks out on this card?

If you receive a bill for a lost item that your student has checked out and you cannot find it, please contact us. We will work with you to resolve this issue. We are fine free so late items will not accrue fines. Also, digital items are automatically returned and do not get lost, so any resource students use digitally will have zero risk.

A helpful tool is found in our MLN Mobile app which can be downloaded onto your phone. Once you install and log into this, it will feature a picture of your library card. You can also link your accounts with other family members using the MLN Mobile app.
