When the City Council elected to build the new Cedar Rapids Public Library on the “TrueNorth” block (on the corner of 5th Avenue and 5th Street), they chose a location with a varied past. The more we learn about the block and the history that surrounds it, the easier it will be to design a building that represents the community.
I read a very compelling and moving article by a woman named Katherine Jumbe. Katherine is 27 years old and lives at home with her parents in an effort to assist her mother who is in the early stages of dementia. The Cedar Rapids Public Library introduces Freegal, a service for cardholders that offers access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. The service will allow the Cedar Rapids Public Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to hundreds of thousands of songs.
