Both locations of the Cedar Rapids Public Library are excited to welcome the public for additional Library services beginning today, June 21, 2021. Meeting room spaces are now available for public booking on a 90-day rolling calendar, Library programming will soon be available in person in buildings, and a new Integrated Library System (ILS) has officially launched.
“The Library has worked to provide accessible, easy to use products and services throughout the pandemic,” said Dara Schmidt, Cedar Rapids Public Library Director. “This step allows us to provide access to critical community spaces and opportunities to connect again in person in our buildings.”
Meeting rooms are now available for use at no cost during open Library hours for general meetings and events. Fees may apply to special events and rooftop rentals. Reservations can be made online at CRLibrary.org/rental, or by calling 319.261.7323.
Additionally, Library programs will begin to be presented in person inside the Library. Certain programs will continue to be offered virtually. Visit our online calendar or our Facebook page (Facebook.com/CRLibrary) for programming details.
“Our Library is so excited to welcome patrons back to our buildings for these additional services,” said Schmidt.
The Metro Library Network also completed a significant transition to a new Integrated Library System (ILS) which is now available for public use. This system manages our collection of shared materials and resources and is how libraries are able to check items in and out to patrons. This is also the system patrons use to search for items in the catalog, place items on hold, and check accounts.
“The new system is easier to use and provides increased efficiency and access for our patrons and staff,” said Schmidt. “We believe our patrons will find the new system a great improvement.”
Masks are requested in the Library for unvaccinated individuals including all children ages 2-11, and highly encouraged while using the Children’s Library. Time limits and capacity limitations have been removed, and furniture is once again available for patrons to enjoy.
No contact curbside holds pickup is still available by appointment at both locations. Patrons can make an appointment for curbside holds pickup online, or call 319.261.READ and staff will assist you.
