We Dare You! This Summer at the Cedar Rapids Public Library
The Cedar Rapids Public Library is daring YOU to reconnect with the community and keep learning all summer long. The 2021 Summer Dare is not your average summer reading program. It is an intergenerational summer learning program that challenges the entire community to get out, explore, learn, connect, and, of course, read.
The Summer Dare includes a reading challenge for all ages, programs and special events designed to encourage lifelong learning, and opportunities to interact and connect with the community through a series of dares. The program begins June 5 and runs through July 31. Participants can register online at crlibrary.beanstack.org.
Everyone receives a book bag or youth journal and a coupon for a free Friends Book Nook book simply by signing up. Register online and visit the Library to receive your items.
To complete the Summer Dare, participants must read 600 minutes. Participants are also encouraged to complete as many dares as possible by July 31. Track your minutes read and dares completed throughout the program on the website crlibrary.beanstack.org. A list of the Dares can be found throughout the Summer Dare guide or on the Summer Dare website.
Programs for all ages will be held throughout the CRPL Summer Dare, both virtually and in person at city parks. The Library’s new mobile tech van will roll to local parks for daily programs as part of the Summer Dare. Instead of a traditional bookmobile, the Library’s new van is fully loaded with all kinds of technology, from laptops and e-readers to Ozobots – tiny robots designed to help kids learn coding.
Look for the van all summer long, four days a week:
Mondays, except July 5, 1:30-3:30 pm, Jacolyn Park, 198 Jacolyn Dr. NW
Tuesdays, 1:30-3:30 pm, Hayes Park, 1924 D St. SW
Wednesdays, 4:30-6:30 pm, Cleveland Park, 1600 8th Ave. SW
Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 pm, Greene Square, 400 4th Ave. SE
