The Cedar Rapids Public Library is honored to work with a dedicated, diverse group of community volunteers. Volunteers are vital to the Library’s ability to effectively and efficiently meet its mission. Volunteer assistance with programs, patrons, and materials engages individuals and organizations to invest in their Library and strengthen their community.
In April, we virtually celebrated National Volunteer Week through a series of social media posts, volunteer communications, a staff “thank you” video, and an online meeting with Library Director Dara Schmidt.
In 2019, 330 volunteers gave over 8,400 hours to the Library in a variety of roles. Seventy new volunteers joined the Library. In total, the value of volunteer hours shared with the Library was over $142,000. The top five volunteer roles by hour were Holds Hunter (1,872 hours), Sorter Room Assistant (1,189 hours), Media Maintenance (915 hours), Adopt-A-Shelf (758 hours), and Clean Team (573 hours).
Thank you to all of our volunteers! We would not be the Library we are without the gifts of time and talent from our volunteers.
