Stay Healthy This Winter at the Library

The Cedar Rapids Public Library invites everyone to stay healthy and engaged with their community this winter, despite falling temperatures. The Library offers a variety of programs to keep everyone moving, learning, and creating throughout the cold weather months.

Programs include:

Cooking Up Nostalgia: Bring your favorite recipes and stories from days gone by! We’ll swap recipes and stories before making something that can be brought home to share. Tuesday, December 3, 10 am, Ladd Library.

Altered Books Workshop with Artisan’s Sanctuary Jim Jacobmeyer, Executive Director of the Artisan’s Sanctuary will facilitate an art workshop the first Wednesday of the month from December-February. This month we’re upcycling books. Learn some techniques to transform old books into new works of art. All materials will be provided. Wednesday, December 4, 6 pm, Downtown Library. Please register at the link.

Listen-In – Audio Stories and Hands on Activities: Each session we’ll listen to a podcast or story from an audiobook, discuss what we’ve heard and create something related to the topic. Wednesday, December 11, 10 am, Downtown Library.

Bookin’ It – Skywalk Audiobook Lunch: Listen to an audiobook while walking the Downtown Skywalk. Pick your own book or listen to a specially curated title from our library staff. We will meet in the Conference Room at the Library, walk, and return. You will need your own device for your audiobook. When we return to the library, join us for discussion and snacks. Thursday, December 12, 11:30 am, Downtown Library.

Kickboxing – Intermediate Class: Melanie Smith will be here to help us stay in shape all winter long! Join us as we kick, lunge and punch the winter blues away. Ages 8+ are welcome. This exercise class will feature medium intensity exercise. All exercises can be modified for all abilities. Some yoga mats will be available but feel free to bring your own as supplies are limited. Wednesday, December 18, 6:30 pm, Downtown Library. Please register at the link.

These are just some examples of the many programs available to keep all ages entertained and engaged this December. Please visit our event calendar for more information and to explore even more events happening throughout the winter.
