Resources and knowledge from your public library

In light of current events, the Metro Library Network has compiled a list of resources for awareness and knowledge.
The public library is for everyone, everywhere. Libraries provide safe spaces for public dialogue and discourse, as well as equal access to information and resources. The very foundation of our democracy relies upon an educated and informed public, and it is the aim of the public library to be a resource to meet that need for every citizen.

It conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis and other empirical social science research. Pew Research Center does not take policy positions. You can find statistics on a wide range of topics including Race and Ethnicity, Free Speech, and Violence and Society.

Southern Poverty Law Center https://www.splcenter.org/
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit legal advocacy organization focusing on civil rights. They have released publications relating to white supremacy and counter protesting.

Ebscohost Full Text Magazine and Newspaper Database
This is a library resource that will connect to magazine and newspaper articles. You can look at individual publications or try a general search for a topic. This database will contain a wide range of viewpoints from a variety of sources.

United States Courts Uscourts.gov
United States Courts is a site maintained by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts on behalf of the Federal Judiciary. The purpose of this site is to provide information from about the Judicial Branch of the U.S. Government. They have an online collection of educational resources. There is an especially helpful explanation of freedom of speech.

Anti-Defamation League https://www.adl.org/
The Anti-Defamation League is a nonprofit, non-partisan Jewish organization based in the United States. Their Education and Resources page contains resources on topics like cyberbullying, readings lists for children on bias, and lesson plans for educators.

National Criminal Justice Service https://www.ncjrs.gov/
NCJRS, an Office of Justice Programs resource, offers juvenile and criminal justice information to support research, policy, and program development worldwide. You can browse by topics like Law Enforcement or Justice System or access statistics through the Bureau of Justice.
