Find a Good Book

Not sure what to read next? The staff in the Information Center at the library is pleased to provide a reader’s advisory service.

Stop at the Information Desk and we’ll be glad to make recommendations or to guide you through NoveList, our online reader’s advisory service. Or feel free to explore NoveList on your own from any computer here or from your home computer (you will need a Library card number to access NoveList from home).

We may also suggest that you browse through books on the Recommended Reading and Best Sellers lists which you’ll find at our Catalog search page; these lists include many award-winning books such as Pulitzer Prize winners, Caldecott and Newbery books, and Hugo Award books, as well as T.V. show book club choices such as books chosen for the Today Show.

You might also enjoy looking at books, movies, and music recommended by our staff; our Staff Picks shelves are updated weekly with some wonderful things, and you can check out the Staff Picks selection online. There are a number of monthly genre-specific newsletters to which you can subscribe that will provide you with recommendations for the kinds of books you like best. You can review and sign up for those newsletters here. Another good electronic resource is our Online Book Clubs page; over a week you’ll get to read 2-3 chapters of a book to see if it’s something you’d enjoy checking out.

In addition, we have a number of books in our collection that you are welcome to look at to find ideas for new things to read.

A few examples include:

  1. The Readers’ Advisory Guide to Genre Fiction
  2. The Salon.com Reader’s Guide to Contemporary Authors
  3. Genreflecting: A Guide to Reading Interests in Genre Fiction
  4. Teen Genreflecting
  5. What Historical Novel do I Read Next?

We can help you find new and exciting things to read!
