Public Wireless Access

Wireless internet access is available at the downtown Library for patrons with a laptop and wireless card. The Library does not provide technical support for the configuration of a patron's laptop. Help for configuring your wireless card is available at the bottom of this page. The library's wireless connection will support any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless card. You will need to configure your wireless card to obtain an IP address via DHCP. Use the software that came with your card to configure your wireless card. Windows XP has built-in wireless capability; no extra software is needed other than the wireless card drivers. Your wireless card should detect the wireless access point automatically. The name of the wireless network (SSID) is 'CRPL Wireless'. Make sure WEP encryption is disabled or set to none. Signal strength is Good to Excellent in most of the main floor of the Library. Wireless access is also available on the 2nd floor of the Library. There is no signal in Beems Auditorium, Study Room D or along most of the south wall along Sixth Avenue.

Once connected to our wireless patrons must agree to the Library's Internet Usage Policy. This will appear when a patron tries to access a website using a web browser. Once a patron clicks on the 'I agree' button he or she will be able to access the internet. Patrons who are using non-web browser applications to access the internet (VPN clients, RSS clients, etc.) will need to open a web browser and click on the 'I agree' button before they can use their application.
