If you are having problems connecting to HeritageQuest Online, please follow the suggestions listed below.
- The most common problem is anti-spam or anti-virus software on your computer. Software that has been identified as a problem includes:
- Norton Internet Security
- Norton Personal Firewall
- Zone Alarm Firewall
- Guard dog Firewall
- Most Spam blockers and Pop-up blockers
Some of these can be resolved by disabling "referring URL blocking" if that is possible.
- AOL and other providers have added anti-spam and firewall software. Check with them to see if there is a way to add "trusted" or "allowed" sites as mentioned below. If so enter the URL of 'heritagequestonline.com' and 'umi.com' on your firewall.
- Check these settings on your web browser
- Java scripting on your browser is "enabled."
- Cookies are "enabled."
- In Internet Explorer, the Security setting must be set to "Medium-low."
- For Internet Explorer 6.0 and up, the user's Privacy setting must be set to "Low."
- Delete your temporary internet files.
- Consider upgrading to the most current version of your web browser. You might also want to try another web browser such as Firefox or Netscape.
- Check your firewall settings. Windows XP has a firewall that is enabled by default. There are also other firewall products such as the ones listed above. Verify that "referring URL" blocking is "disabled". You may have to temporarily turn your firewall off during the time you are using HeritageQuest Online.
