Policy 7.02 - Continuing Education
The Cedar Rapids Public Library Board of Trustees believes that continuing education of the library staff is an important part of our ability to provide quality service. We are committed to upgrading library services through additional education and training. It is important that opportunities for continuing education be provided. Conferences, Workshops and Seminars A specific amount of money will be budgeted each year to defray part of the expenses incurred by staff members. The number of library-related meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions each staff member will be allowed to attend will vary dependent upon staffing patterns, the amount of money in the budget, and the appropriateness of the training session. When a staff member attends a training session, registration for the meeting and mileage to and from the meeting will be paid by the library according to policy 7.01. Preference in attending workshops, conferences and seminars will be given to staff members holding positions for which the board of trustees requires state of Iowa certification. Attendance at all training sessions is subject to the approval of the assistant library director. Courses, Programs and Degree Studies The board of trustees encourages voluntary pursuit of courses, programs and degree studies. Staff members are responsible for any fees or travel expenses connected with courses, programs and degree studies. The board of trustees endorses the regulations for course work as contained in Article 9.4 of the Labor Union Contract and the Human Resources Development Policy for non-bargaining library employees.
