The Anna Purna Ghosh Technology Learning Center is named for the mother of Dr. Chirantan Ghosh. Through the Ghosh family's initial generous gift, which was joined by the other contributors listed above, the Technology Learning Center was established with the purpose of helping the public to understand the continually changing world of digital information technologies through hands-on experience. The library staff needs continual training in new technologies; the center serves this purpose as well.

To accomplish this task, the library provides a wide variety of classes to assist beginners and more advanced individuals in subjects that include but are not limited to basic computer operation, computer application programs, and the Internet. Course subjects are chosen to help people understand computer basics and to master specific information skills in the fulfillment of the library's mission statement. Courses offered by the library are free of charge.

In addition, the library may form partnerships with other departments of the City of Cedar Rapids or organizations within the community to further the goals of the center. Instruction offered by partner organizations may involve a user fee. All classes in the center, whether offered by by the library or by a partner organization, must be available to the public. The only exception is instruction other city departments may arrange for their employees when the content is adaptable to the center's equipment and scheduling. The library has final say in the content of all classes taught in the center.

All courses are available to the public on a first-come/first-served basis. Course announcements are available on the library's web site (www.crlibrary.org), and other media that the library and its partners may choose. Advance reservations are necessary. Reservations for library-sponsored classes may be made through the administrative office at the downtown library. Reservations for classes sponsored by partner organizations should be made through those organizations' offices. Groups in the library's service area desiring to schedule a currently offered class at a special time for their members may contact the library administrative office for details. Class sizes are determined by the equipment available and the number of students instructors can effectively teach. Persons of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend.
