Renew Your Items
Most items at the Downtown Library and at the West Side branch can be renewed twice. Some items like Quickflicks and Quick Pick items cannot be renewed. Items that have holds on them cannot be renewed.
The Library offers three ways for you to renew items.
1. Renew via the internet
You can renew items by accessing your account via the internet. You can view your account by clicking here or by clicking on 'My Account' in our Catalog.
You will be prompted for your library card number and PIN. Once you have entered your account, select the items you wish to renew and click on the 'Renew items' button. Items that have been renewed will show the updated due date.
2. Renew via the Self-Serve line
You can also renew items by calling our Self-Service Line at (319) 398-7405. This automated service will step you through the process to renew items. Once an item has been renewed the system will tell you the new due date.
3. Renew via the telephone
You can also renew items by calling any location of the Metro Library Network during the hours they are open.

Place a Hold
Holds can be placed on nearly any item that circulates at the Library. For most accounts, you can have up to 20 items on hold at any one time. You can be notified by email, telephone or mail when a reserved item is available for pickup.
Items can be held at any of the Metro Libraries regardless of where you live. In our Catalog, you can place holds on existing items as well as items that are on order or that are being processed by our cataloging staff. Once a hold has been placed on an item, you can access your account online to see your position in the hold queue.
Bookdrop Locations
Several bookdrop locations are available throughout the Metro Library area to help patrons return items. Bookdrops are located within each library. Hiawatha, Marion and the Cedar Rapids Library West have outside bookdrops.
A bookdrop is located at Westdale Mall at the lower level main entrance near JC Penney's. All Metro Area Hy-Vee Food Stores have bookdrops available inside the main entrance.
