The Metro Library Network which consists of the Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion Public Libraries, shares a collection of ebooks and downloadable audiobooks which are available to most Metro Library card holders at no charge through a program called OverDrive.
OverDrive ebooks are available to residents of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Marion, Alburnett and Robins, along with residents of rural Linn County. **Residents of other Linn County cities do not have access and should contact their city libraries with questions.**
In addition to OverDrive, free public domain titles are available for anyone to download through websites like Project Gutenberg, Open Library, and Feedbooks.
The Library’s OverDrive program for ebooks is available for use on a variety of devices, including Nook, Kindle, iPad, and many more.
**This is a change and may impact users of OverDrive who until now have been able to access ebooks through the Metro Library Network. We apologize for any confusion and frustration caused by this change. This change is required by OverDrive, who licenses the ebooks to the Network. Please contact your city library and ask if it offers ebooks--many are part of a consortium provided by the State Library and may already offer ebooks which are accessible to you.
