What is a Building Program Document?

The Building Program Document is a comprehensive, detailed, written description of the proposed library facility.

The building program is both a narrative and quantitative summary of the facility required to support the library’s service and operational program.

The building program document specifies the size, furnishings, electrical and mechanical needs, lighting, finishes, security, equipment, communications, and functional relationships for every functional area of the library

The Library Board accepted these building program documents on January 3, 2008.

To gain a better understanding of the proposals, please pay special attention to these sections.

  1. The section titled Key Design Issues offers an overview of critical service and operational strategies employed in the proposed buildings (beginning on page 3 in both building programs).

  2. The table titled Space, User Seating and Public Technology Summary quickly summarizes space use in each building. (beginning on page 5 of each program).
