So, the basic premise of this book is: wife finds letter to be opened only in the event of her husband’s death, wife reads letter, lives are ruined. And, here’s the thing – it’s a great read. There’s plenty of suspense leading up to the discovery of the husband’s secret, and the secret is not what you think it’s going to be. Hmm.
The story, which takes place in Sydney, Australia, centers around three women who have no idea how delicately intertwined their lives are. Everyone is nice, a bit neurotic, and just like people we all know. All of them worry about their “huge” problems: misbehaving children, not enough stuff, etc., etc. But as all three women and their families face real problems due to the husband’s secret, the story becomes about intent, guilt, and retribution. He pays a price, and the sadness of it all leaves the reader wondering about the meaning of justice.
The Husband’s Secret, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, is available through the Metro Library Network as a book, large print book, and eBook.
