Here’s a must-read for Halloween from the children’s library.
Nightmares come and go, but after reading Go Away, Big Green Monster by Caldecott winner Ed Emberly, your child’s nightmares just may go away forever. The ingenious construction of this book “builds” a monster’s face as children turn the pages: first the yellow eyes, next the eyes with a long nose, and so on. Then the fun begins, as kids tell the monster, “You don’t scare me, so GO AWAY” and deconstruct the monster page by page. This is a great read aloud – spooky sound effects provided by parents – especially when kids get to declare “And don’t come back until I say so!”
Go Away, Big Green Monster has been keeping the goblins at bay since 1992.
