This is a big weekend of grand openings and celebrations in our city! Today we celebrate the renovation and re-opening of the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Paramount Theatre was another victim of the devastating floods of 2008 and four years of painstaking detail work has gone into the renovation project which brings the building back to the grandeur of the 1920s.
An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at noon today with tours to follow. The official grand re-opening gala will happen November 3 with a show by Harry Connick, Jr. Find more information at www.paramounttheatrecr.com.
In addition to the celebration of this city landmark, another part of our community will celebrate a signature building this weekend. The New Bo City Market will hold it’s grand opening celebration this Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28. The Market has been long anticipated by many in the community as another opportunity to bring local, fresh produce and products directly to consumers. This weekend also marks the annual Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library annual fall book sale, which begins this afternoon at the former Von Maur store in Westdale Mall. Be sure to drop in and pick up some items and help support the Friends literacy programs. Get more information here.
While we celebrate these two important icons in our community we look forward to our own library downtown and the soon to be opened west-side library on Williams Blvd SW. Both projects are under construction and progress is continuing to be visible. Stay tuned to our blog for more information in the coming months.
