Wednesday, March 7, is World Read Aloud Day, an opportunity for the world to come together to raise
their voices and celebrate the power of words. More than 793 million people are illiterate in the world today. World Read Aloud Day is a chance for kids, parents, educators, caregivers, and families to advocate for the power of reading and every child’s right to access to books and education.
The Cedar Rapids Public Library (CRPL) will celebrate World Read Aloud Day with special guest readers beginning at 10:30 am on Wednesday. KCRG anchor and author Chris Earl, CRPL Library Board member Harriet Kalinsky, and children’s author Linda Skeers (“The Impossible Patriotism Project”,”Tutus”) will read and talk with children about the value of reading. Each child will receive a copy of “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. Our friends from Chick-fil-A will provide treats.
Join the CRPL for this annual story time and help spread the word about World Read Aloud Day and the value of reading. Read aloud with your loved ones or friends on your own. Ask a librarian for some great story recommendations for every age.
